Dr Stephen Coles was there at the formation of National Veterinary Care and was instrumental in creating the ethos that guides our veterinary community to this day. As NVC’s Non-Executive Director and a leading figure in the veterinary industry, his experience, guidance and generosity in training the next generation of veterinarians and vet nurses will be a legacy that will elevate the sector for decades to come.
With 40 years’ veterinary experience, Dr Stephen Coles was highly respected as a General Practitioner and Specialist. He was a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne and a Scientific Associate of the Zoological Board of Victoria.
For more than 20 years he served as honorary zoological dentist at Melbourne Zoo, seeing to the oral health of more than 3000 animals, from big cats to gorillas and hippopotamus.
In 2017 Stephen was one of 14 world-wide inaugural inductees by examination to the Certificates of Zoo and Wildlife Dentistry by the American Veterinary Dental College and was also admitted to Melbourne Zoo’s Hall of Fame in recognition of his long term veterinary dental services to the Zoo.
To continue to celebrate the gift it was to have known him, to have learnt from him and to marvel at the positive difference he bought to countless lives, we are honoured to announce the Dr Stephen Coles NVC Scholarship.
The Dr Stephen Coles NVC Scholarship will offer one Veterinary Surgeon and one Veterinary Nurse the opportunity to attend the Veterinary Dental Forum in Orlando, Florida this September.
The Dr Stephen Coles NVC Scholarship is proudly supported by Hills Pet Nutrition & iM3.
